Backpack Brawl – How to Build Around Uniques (Young Squire)

Guide to Young Squire Build

By Layeadright.

Build Paths

There’s no Specific build that I would say to be the best. The game will continue to change along with its items, counters and new heroes will be added but let’s start with the basics.

Since we’ve played a lot by now, we know how important it is to have extra space especially in the early game. I recommend leveling your character up to 15 to make your early games easier. We’re going to need all the packs we can get on this one.

For this game/playthrough, I’m going for the Errant Lance Build. It is nice to fill all the Errant Lance’s Star to their max capacity, but you don’t have to. It’s best to have other items that enhances the overall damage as well. After the first 7 rounds, the 8th shop enter will welcome you with a surprise. He’s here!

And look, we have enough 2×3 space for his arrival…Just like we planned!

Now that we have the Young Squire, building our packs would be easier. The best things we could obtain would be:

  • Sashes
  • Cactus for the Errant Lance
  • Knights Aegis
  • Defender’s Shield

Cheap armors to sell:

  • Leather Jacket
  • Traveler’s Hat
  • Etc

Expensive armors to use or sell:

  • Crowns
  • Scalemail
  • Man-o-larean
  • Etc

And even armors from other heroes! (As long as you have unlocked them using you other heroes. My example would be Young squire could drop Nymphedora’s bracers an Chana’s Cloak). The following listed above are not complete. The list would be longer depending on what you have unlocked so the builds are entirely up to you, free to venture! But I’ll still give one or maybe two examples later.

Priorities and The Duration

The following screenshots are from some rounds in the game. We need to remember that Young Squire is very bulky so we would need to max out our pack inventory and fill it with packs.

This would maximize your winning streak since you didn’t neglect your offensive and defensive side. With supportive items like belts and potions that would further strengthen your builds.

These three will be our priorities. Don’t Forget! Young Squire is only there for support! We need to win for his sake! Jokes aside, our main build is still the winning factor of the game/Playthrough.

Young Squire’s Main function is to give us armors for our build. Complete the Unbreakable Wall, Vanguard belts or sell items as low as 2-4 Gold. Don’t be afraid to sell a cactus or two.

This would ensure your maximum gold gain per round from the Unique, apart from the lucky Scalemail or Crown drops if you’re lucky. But you can still sell them if you want to.

A Minor Tip:

When you have become an econ god and would be overwhelmed by the amount of stuff that you don’t want to sell but would love to extend the game to maximize your late game builds, this would be what your inventory and storage would look like.

Tink is that you!? Oh…

We can use the shop items after rerolling a bunch of times to hold our largest items. Small ones are fine too.

This would give us a breathing room to reorganize and optimize our builds.

To Sell or Not To Sell?

Benefits of not selling:

  • Young Squire could deal extra damage for free(Without Stamina Cost)
  • Cash/Gold flow will still continue if you still are in the game and didn’t win
  • More cactus for the Errant Lance

Benefits of selling:

  • 2×3 Space would be used by other defensive, offensive, or supportive items that would help you win those last few trophies.
  • Extra 5 Gold
  • You can focus on the end game Rerolls

Typically, the selling window should be between round 12 to 19. We can sell Young Squire before round 12 if we’re in our last 1 or 2 hearts to gamble in the shop items appearances.

If your build is too strong, you can win with Young Squire in tow! But I didn’t.

I went for Unbreakable and Bolstered Helmet as my defensive items with a hybrid of Amethyst Blade, Excalibur and Errant Lance for my offensive in both games. These are the final results with Young Squire as the Unique.

Conclusion

Young squire is a good Econ and an armor item source depending on the RnG. To maximize gains, don’t hesitate to build shovels, buy chests, eggs, bronze and gold bars and etc. What matters is that you are using what you are comfortable with.

The end result will still be up to you since we can’t predict the shop items. Young Squire only helps us complete our Unbreakable Wall/s faster and gives a steady supply of Cactus. Econ is the best trait of the Young Squire. Make it count.
