Deadlock – Gameplay FAQ: Mechanics

Frequently Asked Questions about Game Mechanics

Are guns hitscan or are they projectiles?

All weapons are projectiles of various speeds except for Bebop, who has a hitscan laser.

What is sprint speed?

Sprint speed is a stat that is inherent to heroes such as Lady Geist and Bebop but can be obtained through items and abilities for other heroes. While you always have your move speed, your sprint speed is only effective if you haven’t been hit in the last few seconds. While sprinting is active your running animation will change, and white lines will trail behind you.

What is dash jumping?

Dash jumping is a timing-based movement input that allows you to go further than two dashes while using the same amount of stamina. This is important to engage and disengage from combat, as well as move around the map quickly. Whenever you dash, the stamina bar will flash blue to indicate when to input a jump to succeed the input.

Why would I slide?

Sliding happens whenever you press crouch while moving at least 9.5m/s or on an incline. Sliding can be used to maintain momentum, extending the use of stamina after dashes. While sliding, you will have infinite ammo. This can be used to finish off enemies and increase DPS on guardians.

How do I down-dash?

You can double tap crouch while midair to dash downwards quickly, costing 1 stamina.

What are the damage types?

The damage types in Deadlock are Weapon Damage and Spirit Damage. Generally, you will take Weapon Damage from enemy guns and melee attacks, and Spirit Damage from enemy abilities. These damage types are always represented by their respective colors in the UI.

How does melee work?

Melee (default Q) does damage based on a combination of your hero, level, Weapon Items and any items you have that specify increased Melee Damage. Tapping does a light melee, which is nearly instant. Holding performs a heavy melee, which can be parried on reaction but deals nearly twice the damage and lunges forward. You have full turning control while lunging with a heavy melee.

How does parrying work?

Parrying (default F) will interrupt an enemy melee, causing them to become stunned. While stunned from a parry, the enemy will take 30% increased damage from melee attacks. If you parry and miss, you will be locked out of parrying again for 6 seconds, leaving you open to melee.

What is Spirit Power?

Spirit Power is a stat accumulated from items and buffs and certain hero abilities / attributes scale with it. You can tell that something scales with Spirit Power by the purple star with an up arrow accompanying a purple highlight. You can see the exact amount something scales by holding the alt key (by a function of Base Value + (Spirit Scaling*Spirit Power). Pay close attention to hero pages on the main menu, where you can see if a hero has an attribute that will scale with spirit.

What are those orange and purple bars beside my health?

Those are shields. They will take damage of the appropriate type before your health is reduced, with the orange bar being for weapon damage and the purple bar being for spirit damage. If your shield is damaged, it will take 20 seconds to start recharging if it isn’t fully depleted or 60 if it is. Shields do NOT inherit resists from items such as bullet armor and spirit armor, unlike your health.

How does getting shot off the transit line work?

If you attach to a transit line and are shot by an enemy, you will be stunned and take a burst of damage. If you’re attached to a line safely for 3 seconds (or instantly if you attach from inside your own base), you will get a buff that makes you immune to this, represented by a blue glow.
