Deadlock – Gameplay Tips

How to Play the Game

In-Game Tutorial

The tutorial teaches you the main objectives:

  • Defeat small enemy units (minions).
  • Purchase equipment at the shop.

There are three types of minions:

  • Standard: Attacks enemy champions and other minions
  • Healing: Restores health to nearby friendly champions and minions, with a time limit between heals
  • Close-range: Fights at short distance

You need to damage minions to get credit for defeating them and collect souls. If you don’t, they’ll disappear without giving you anything. Using close-range attacks on minions can get you both the defeat credit and the soul.

The tutorial also explains how to collect money. It’s best to play through it to understand this part.

It’s important to let minions take damage from towers instead of you, especially when you’re at a low level. Towers are very strong early in the game.

The game progresses as follows:

  • Destroy the first tower.
  • Defeat the larger tower that looks like a spider.
  • Take down two more important towers.
  • Capture the enemy’s special areas.
  • Defeat the main enemy character.
  • Destroy the final objective, which is designed to look like a head.

Important Features

Breakable objects:

  • You can break crates by hitting them or running through them.
  • This gives you useful items like souls or permanent improvements to health, ammo, or shooting speed.

Spirit urn:

  • This is an object you need to carry from one side of the map to the other.
  • Delivering it gives you souls and other rewards.
  • It shows up on the map before appearing in the game, so you can get ready to grab it.

Mid-level boss:

  • Your Patron (THEMAN) will tell you when it appears.
  • You’ll hear a loud noise.
  • It will show up in the middle of the map.

Center of the map:

  • Has many crates with good items.

Neutral creatures:

  • Their groups are shown on the map.
  • Killing them gives you souls, but you don’t have to kill all of them.
  • There are three types, getting stronger as they get bigger.

Helpful actions:

  • You can mark things on the map using the mouse wheel or by clicking on the map.
  • You can return to your base to heal quickly, which can give you an advantage early in the game.
  • Don’t do this when enemies are attacking your guardian (the tower).

General Tips

  • Number 1 priority is learning the item system – when I got access I just spent literally like 20 hours in the hero sandbox testing item and hero combinations – everything works with everything else and the most important thing is knowing not only what items work well in isolation but also what items you need to work together in order to scale and stay viable.
  • You should always be doing something, whether it’s jungling (killing the weird alien netural enemies), pvping, going after a tower, or just farming candles and boxes, make sure you are always doing something other than just running around the map aimlessly.
  • If you can’t take fights, just don’t fight. if you feel like you’re consistently behind you should focus on farming souls and itemization instead.
