Infused Dwarven Rune Farming Guide

Lots of words, however I explain everything as clearly as possible. Please read the full guide, including the immediate replies for all strategies. If you have an issue with something, please be sure to quote it and turn notifications on, so I can see your message easier.
Due to the move of adding weapon enchants to the game, and them being added to all dungeons above level 65+, with the exception of Demigod and “possibly” Archeon (due to the epic weapon rewards able to roll Enchant lines), the issue surrounding IDR farming and their sources have become a topic of discussion. Due to the requirement of 5 demigod clears before pushing Archeon, the idea to hoard IDRs for use of Demigod keys is an idea that players now need to re-consider, should they want to push their progression further.
This shows that IDRs are the most significant item regarding progression, and are now a sought after item for all those that wish to push the end-game. I’m going to offer you the list of IDR sources, as well as optimizing the farming strategy for obtaining them as best as possible, to maximise your progression.
IDR Sources
- 8,000 Dwarven Rune – Crafted at Map Key Device in base
- 2 chests contianing one IDR each in Grave Digger’s Cove
- One chest containing one IDR inside the Catacombs upper level.
- Found inside Ancient Dwarven Chests (Requires 1x Ancient Runic Key – Craft 2 keys for 1 IDR at Ancient Stone Anvil)
- Uncommon reward from Rupture Bosses
- Rare reward from opening chests inside ruptures (Epic levels of rare).
- Common reward from Tomb of Fortune chest.
- Uncommon reward from dungeon boss chests.
- Uncommon reward from Hourglass boss from above rupture 75+ (Hourglass boss has a random rupture level everytime you enter. Low levels typically reward gemstones, higher levels reward map keys and other craftable matterials).
Optimized Strategies for Farming IDRs
Strategy 1: Grave Digger’s Cove
For the cost of 10 x Handful of Bones, you can craft 1 x Key to access the Grave Digger’s Cove. The following picture is the location of each chest:
Note the following:
You must wait the full duration of the first crypt opening. This means you need to wait until the Grave Digger tells you to leave his crypt.
Once you have completed that, you can then begin skipping other crypts until you get the one you want. Simply enter the crypt, kill 1 wave of bugs, then leave that crypt and the Grave Digger will become active again. Repeat this process until you get access to the second crypt with the IDR chest in it.
To farm for Grave Digger keys, you want to be farming Shadow Chests inside Infused Ruptures. Each chest drops ONE “Handful of Bones”, which is 1/10th of a Grave Digger’s key. As you’ll be farming Infused ruptures for resources, this will naturally stack over time.
Strategy 2: Dwarven Runes
This Strategy has multiple approaches. The first is farming infused ruptures and getting any container that gives you the Dwarven Runes. Starting from about Rupture 60, these containers reward you over 1,000 dwarven runes. Typically, you would see one of these per infused beetle run. More, of course, is better.
The second approach is turning zone specific Keys into 75 Dwarven runes at the Map Carving Table. This strategy is controversial as people will be using these keys to craft Catacomb keys, however there is a method to the madness. As you farm infused ruptures, you’re going to naturally aquire these area specific runes as rewards from chests, and in the shape of fragments. It costs 2,000 fragments to craft one stone, and 30 stones of each type are required for one Catacomb key. Due to how powerful a catacomb run is, it’s typically advised “not” to do this, however there are underlying issues here:
- Farming zones over and over will net you more fragments, and in turn, stones, in specific regions.
- Converting fragments to another type helps speed up the catchup mechanic for the other fragments needed for stones.
- At the Alchemy table, it requires 5 iron bars, and 5 wood to craft 5 Bones, allowing the direct conversion of a crafting resource into fragments.
- There is no converting Kabarian Fragments into any other fragment at the Alchemy table.
That last point is one I want to highlight. When you finally unlock the Elven Capital portal chance at the Elven harp, and begin stacking Elven keys, you want to typically run the capital as many times as possible. The crafting rewards are great, however the best reward comes in the form of gems, and the end-of-map chest that awards you with Zul Key Fragments. To craft a Zul key, you need 10 fragments, and there are only two sources of these fragments in the game: One for clearing Archeon, and 1-3 rewarded from Elven Capital. This means if you only farmed Archeon, it would require 50 Demigod clears, to run 10 Archeons to craft one Zul key. This pushes the need for Elven capital forward.
So, why does that align with the last point? Kabarian Swamps has a larger amount of mining nodes that spawn compared to the other regions. Because of this, farming Kabarian Swamps strictly for pushing Elven Capital spawns, is one of the most optimal methods for this. Because of this, it is recommended to do all your Infused Essence farming on Kabarian Swamps:
- Clear nodes on map
- Get 100 essence
- Rush boss.
This is roughly a 1min 30sec process, and has two goals: Looking for an elven portal, and if there isn’t one, rushing the boss for time essence to craft more infused beetles. This will naturally lead you to have more Kabarian Swamp fragments, and stones, then any other stone. This means you can safely turn in 1 stone for 75 Dwarven Runes, safely pushing you forward.
Strategy 3: Stone Balancing
Much like the above method, rather then being strictly limited to Kabarian Fragments and stones, this method is the act of balancing out your stones as you progress and craft Catacomb keys.
As shown here, these are my fragments and stones after crafting my second Catacomb key today:
Because of the imbalance shown, I have multiple options to get my NEXT catacomb key:
- Farm Myrh for bones out of map containers (the 5 essence one’s that spawn on the map) and monster drops
- Farm Hinterlands for fire shards out of map containers (the 5 essence one’s that spawn on the map) and monster drops
- Farm Kabarian Swamps for fragments out of map containers (the 5 essence one’s that spawn on the map) and monster drops
These are my THREE lowest stones, but require the target farming of three different zones. The other keys are already high enough not to worry about. But why would I not worry about them? Well, disenchanting items awards you with fragments from all zones. This means I progress all stones slowly, while target farming the other ones.
Following this, if I were to leave the current stones alone, I will undoubtedly get to a point of having an over-abundance of stones in specific regions, forcing me to only farm a specific area. This won’t do, as I need resources that come in higher chances from the other zones I’ve already over-farmed (Massadian gives a good chance at iron bars and Massadian Ingots from the ingot containers). This over-farming will continue as I spend resources for crafting.
The solution? Turning stones into Dwarver runes, and balancing them all out. The goal is to bring the stones to a similar level as your lowest stone. Why? You’re going to go there and farm anyways, and the disenchanting will keep all other stones in-check as you gain more fragments from disenchanting.
This does not slow down your Catacomb key crafting, only makes it more rewarding. Yes, you can get lucky from containers an obtain regional fragments from different regions, but this should not be considered a strategy as it’s an RNG based mechanic.
Strategy 4: Ancient Runic Keys and Dwarven Chests
A rare chest that can spawn from Elites is the Dwarven Ancient Chest, that requires 1x Key to open. These keys are crafted with IDRs, and they give you 2 keys per 1 IDR used. This may feel risky, however consider the following:
- Dwarven Chests have a much higher chance to award Dungeon Keys
- Receiving 1x Catacomb key from a chest pays for 2 keys.
- Receiving 1x Grave Diggers key from a chest pays for 4 keys.
- Receiving 1x IDR from a chest pays for 2 keys.
- Other good matterials and fragments are found in a chest, even if you’re unlucky to hit ANY of the above 3.
It is recommended to have 2 or more keys in your inventory, because the rewards are kind of nuts for progression. An example being that I have opened 6 chests this season, and out of those I received 1 Elysia key, 2 Grave Digger’s keys, and 2 Catacombs keys. For the cost of 3x IDRs, I made 6x IDRs and a significant amount of other items. The return cost on a Dwarven Chest significantly outweighs the investment cost into 2x keys.
Notes
With this, there are clear ways you can out-farm the pace of aquiring map specific scrolls. As you progress, these avenues of rewards will begin to overflow for the amount of IDRs you begin to accumulate. With the recent changes to Demigod key cost, you can assume the following:
- On a lucky run with 1x Scroll container, or more, you are looking at 10 minutes per zone, for 6 infused, totalling 1 hour on average per demigod key.
- During this hour, you need to accumulate a minimum of 3 IDRs, to match the cost of 5x each scroll, 3x IDR for 1 demigod key.
- You are going to farm more then enough IDRs per hour to match this.
- With the amount of sources for IDRs, farming them over scrolls will become easier due to the requirements for Demigod keys.
- As time passes, you will have aquired more scrolls then IDRs, allowing you to over-stack and strictly target regions for crafting matterials. This will then push the weight of Strategy 4 forward even more, allowing for the increased gain of Dwarven Runes.
- Running your Tomb of Fortune keys is highly recommended, rather then trading in 3 keys for rewards at the NPC in base. ToF also has an uncommon reward of Elven Capital keys, meaning another source of Zul key fragments.
- Forcing a player to choose the use of an IDR is only matched by the methods of obtaining them, and understanding their worth.
- Don’t be afraid to use IDRs for map keys other then demigod keys. Progression comes in different forms from all over the game.
