Farming Lunacy 2000 Build
What You Need to Do First
- Complete the game to unlock the Lunacy rifts challenges.
- Find all the mainframe components.
- Lower the difficulty and use a tier IV ship to get gear from level 3 incursions.
- Playing at nightmare difficulty sometimes gives you legendary items.
Getting a Bomber
Not all bombers are the same. The right passive abilities are important. Go to Kato’s Palace and look for a bomber. Every 10 minutes, change the passive abilities until you get good ones. This might take some time.
Here are good passive abilities to look for:
- ARC-9000 damage increases by 2% for every second after being fired.
- Target lock stays even when off screen.
- 20% less energy used for all secondary weapons.
- When ARC-9000 is manually detonated, get 40% more ARC-9000 shockwave damage.
These abilities make the ARC-9000 stronger and help you use less energy. The target lock ability isn’t very useful for this setup, but it helps in certain game modes. Choose a name for your ship. You can use a theme if you want.
Which Perks to Choose and Why
“Close Call” isn’t necessary if you’re skilled enough. I’ve completed over 1300 rifts without it. “Defensive Massacre” is a better choice once you’re more experienced. It feels more rewarding to complete a difficult rift without dying than to rely on automatic revival.
“Play it Safe” can make some ships very hard to destroy with certain passives and devices. I prefer “Downtime Warrior”, but “Play it Safe” is okay if you’re still having trouble staying alive.
“Crit Happens” is good for high damage. “Critical Faculty” works well if you’re using passives that make the ARC-9000 very powerful. If survival is still an issue, “Unyielding Assault” can help with armor regeneration.
“Exploitation” is effective because it will slow down almost everything in this build. “Preparation” takes too long to build up and resets at bad times.
“Symphony of Destruction” is consistently useful, unlike the alternatives. “Ride the Lightning” takes too long to become effective and doesn’t last when you need it. “Overkill” only works for a short time, even in the best cases.
Building a Bomber Ship
When building a Bomber, focus on these attributes in order of importance: Firepower, Precision, and Expertise. Structure and Resistance are less useful, especially since the Bomber’s Expertise is for hull repair and damage. Try to get each important attribute close to 3500, but prioritize Firepower for best results.
Choose devices that work well with perks like Play it Safe or Downtime Warrior. For a Play it Safe setup, use these devices:
- EMP: Hard Reset
- Corrosion Injector: Mercy Kill
- Annihilator Virus: R-naught
- Missile Defense System: Sustenance
The first three devices work together to reset often, which activates Reactive Armor frequently. The Missile Defense System is useful for dealing with missiles and has other benefits.
For a more aggressive approach using Downtime Warrior, change EMP to Short Circuit and Corrosion Injector to Caustic Trauma. This keeps warfare devices on cooldown longer, giving more energy to main weapons.
Support devices like Teleport and Energized Boost aren’t necessary. This playstyle focuses on staying close to enemies and trying to defeat them quickly before they can cause too much damage.
How to Be Legendary
This strategy focuses on maximizing damage from bomber secondary weapons while surviving. A good choice is the Final Reckoning (Blightmonger), which can increase secondary weapon damage by up to 600% (mine has 599%). It has a high fire rate of 20.0/s for frequent critical hits, and decent damage per second, range, and energy use.
The Birds Nest (Blightmonger) is useful for slowing down enemies. This activates the Exploitation perk, makes targeting easier, and helps you avoid getting hit.
The Ragnarok (Peripheral) is rare but valuable. It automatically applies 39% destabilization for 4.9 seconds when hitting an enemy. This effect is so useful that I replaced the Omni Magnus on three of my ships.
The Terminal Velocity (Blightmonger) requires practice to use safely. It’s risky at first, but once you learn to use it, it can help you survive. Try to keep it close to Latent Boost so it’s ready when needed.
Notice that we’re using many Blightmonger items to get the four-piece set bonus, which adds another 50% to secondary weapon damage.
The Other Weapons
The recommended secondary weapon is Powerful Corrosion Mines (two sets). These mines:
- Have a 10% chance to restore 20% of Hull hitpoints per kill
- Are magnetic, attracting enemies within 500 meters
- Deal 20% extra damage to Ancients and Ancient-controlled units
These mines are highly effective due to various bonuses (Blightmonger set, Final Reckoning, Exploitation). They can’t be intercepted and are very powerful. The “Powerful” version allows for an additional 30% damage boost with a catalyst.
For primary weapons, you have choices:
- Rapid Redemption Eradicator
- Soul Seeker
Look for these attributes:
- 20% bonus damage to Ancients
- Non-critical hits may increase critical hit chance by 2%
For Soul Seeker, try to get “Shots have a chance to do area damage” or “20% chance to reflect shots”.
Tip: Save your game before re-rolling weapon attributes. If you don’t get what you want after several attempts, reload and try a different version of the weapon. Sometimes this method is more effective than continuously re-rolling the same item.
Check the ES2 Fandom site for information on possible attributes for different weapons and modules to avoid wasting resources.
The Rest of It
To further enhance your mines and bomber:
Optimized Redemption Zealous Core
- 527 Firepower
- 4% extra secondary weapons damage
- 6% increased kinetic damage
- Ideal: 10% increased destabilized damage (if you can get it)
Blightmonger Overcharged Hazard Shield
- 428 Precision
- 10% Destabilized damage
- 4% extra secondary weapons damage
- Makes Corrosion Field modifier less of a threat
Redemption Optimized Dogmatic Scanner
- 527 Firepower
- 527 Precision
- Mine Launchers deal 20% increased damage
Autonomous Optimized Repair Bay
- 527 Firepower
- Missile Defense System increases secondary weapons damage by 25% when active
- 5% increased hull repair
- Helps against boss ships and repairs damaged equipment
For consumables, use Damage Booster and Energy Injector, especially with the Soul Seeker weapon.
The Redemption set, while less powerful than before due to changes in the Dogmatic scanner, can still be very effective. In areas with crystal asteroids, launching your ARC can create many turrets at once, making it easier to clear enemies.
How to Fly Effectively in the Game
Start by moving to the side instead of the middle. When you’re close enough, use your weapons and place as many mines as you can. Switch quickly between mines to place more of them faster. Use the Final Reckoning weapon to weaken enemies and increase your damage bonus. Be careful with your shots instead of firing constantly.
I usually keep the aim assist on, but I did finish the game on the hardest difficulty without it. Use Terminal Velocity to keep your Latent Boost around 90% so you can dodge enemy attacks when needed. If you move fast enough, you’ll need to boost to the next group of enemies. Drop mines as you go to cause extra damage.
If you see red beams from snipers, move away, get closer, and use your guns to deal with them. Try to create a line of about 3 Bird Nests with enemies inside. Use your ARC-9000 weapon in the middle to cause a lot of damage. If you see a group of crystal asteroids, use the ARC in the middle to create many crystal turrets that help you.
The game modifiers don’t change much. I don’t use the area damage one often because it’s risky. Corrosion fields don’t hurt you, and only 2 weapons use lock-on if you choose the Eradicator.
For the final boss, attack strongly from the start. Use a damage booster and your MSD to make your mines stronger. Move in a circular pattern to make it harder for the enemy to hit you. Use Latent Boost to dodge or escape if needed, and use your ARC or chase the teleporting enemy.
The only boss I find difficult is the one where you have to fly inside its shield, but it’s still possible to beat. I hope this explanation helps people understand why some strategies work well together. If you found this helpful, let me know. I have 8 other ship setups that work well on the highest difficulty, except maybe for the Scout ship. I’ve beaten the game with the Scout, but I’m not very good with it.
