Terraforming

There are two types of hills you have

Slopes

Hills

To be able to destroy or create them you need a farm-level 24.

When you do you will unlock terraforming tools in the shop

You need to use the corresponding item in the shop and you can alternate between raise and lower with the button it says on the bottom right.

For Steam it is ‘Z’ or ‘Y’

It costs 10 diamonds but if you position it right you can do a 3×3 area and save yourself some of those diamonds!

Creating, Deleting and Editing Farms

If you’re like me you probably clicked on play then set some settings down and then you realised you didn’t like them, for example setting it to private or closed.

You cannot change this in-game however you can in the menus.

Here you can delete, change guest/friend permissions and set your visibility or even change the name of your farm.

Fishing

If you have played FT1 you might be disappointed to know that fish doesn’t work the same anymore, so no you cannot create those massive ponds of 1000 fish… well, you can but it comes at a penalty!

In FT2 there is a maximum pond size before you get an income penalty. As of currently it is 36 so you would lose money if you put down just one more fish.

Here is a graph which shows you how much you would get depending on the pond size. As you can see when you get to a 325 pond size you are losing just under 40% of your income.

One way to combat this is to put fish down in rows of 36 for example:

This way you can still have a relatively small farming area. I have done 2×18 here but you can just do 1x36s and then use a separator so you don’t merge the ponds.

Decoration

In FT2 decorating is better than ever with a new option where you can alternate the colouring or style of the decoration including paths!

Not only that but the pathing has gotten better!

With this new mechanism, you have two new types of path styles so you can be a little more dynamic.

To do this use the rotate button while having a path out.

You can do the same with shop items.

Press the button at the bottom where it says ‘Variant’ 1/x and you can change the style (if it has another style not all do).

The Town

In FT1 we had shop stands however in FT2 this has changed as we now have a town!  To access this area go to the bus stop or open your map.

Here you can place stalls on the buildings which have a blue sign on them

You can trade here however the merchant is capped to sell only what it has to give and periodically regenerates.

You can change this by upgrading the building, This is how you get a tractor and increase fuel capacity and regen rate.

At farm level 15 the bottom row of shops open up for placement and at farm level 20 the top row opens up so if you are unhappy with your placement you can move shops by pressing ‘Z’ or ‘Y’ on the Steam version and move it wherever you like.

Taking Pictures Of Your Farm

Just like in FT1, there is a photo mode however it is a little bit better because it works like a freecam.

When you enter Photo Mode you are prompted with a bunch of controls, you can move around and zoom out or even  tilt the camera.

When you’re in camera mode you can press ‘Z’ to Look at Camera and use your emotes. While in camera mode! There are a few ways of taking the photo. One way is by pressing Enter and this will save a photo in your FT2 library. Or you can hide the interface and alt+Print Screen. This will copy your screenshot to your clipboard and now you can paste it anywhere.

Not sure why you would want to, but you could even take a photo upside down.

Starting Out On A New Farm

If you’re like me you want to start a farm and just hit the ground running, you may even want to start min/maxing or looking at routes to go down but honestly, it isn’t needed.

At the beginning ROI is very important as you don’t have much money yet so potatoes would be a great investment because they can nearly double your money, however, you will get to a point where you can’t plant enough potatoes to double anymore.

At this point you could be using an upkeep system, planting those potatoes constantly and then using the profits and the profits only, use that money to start building your farm or even getting those unlocks!! It’s very important to get all crops etc unlocked as soon as possible so you can begin to min/maxing your farm.

Currently, the last carrot, melon and zucchini are the best crops in the game according to season apart from winter, winter is useless in terms of money.

Winter is mainly used for selling at the town all season or getting wheat for your animals, basically anything but profits.

Crops are essential to your farm’s growth as it is a good way to make short-term money so don’t forget to keep crops grown before you spend a lot of money.
