Talent Tree Basics Explained
How should I spend my talent points on the first few runs?
Talent points are those things:
You earn them every 10 class levels. Your class level is displayed under your character icon.
Every single thing that you can click on and spend your talent points on is called a “node”.
- Most of the nodes can be upgraded 5 times, 1 point per upgrade (example nodes marked with green).
- Some of the nodes can be upgraded 3 times, 5 points per upgrade (example nodes marked with blue).
- Few of the nodes can be upgraded 1 times, 25 points per upgrade (example nodes marked with red).
While not important on your first run, it’s quite important to keep this in mind.
Important: Clicking on any of the nodes gives you its description. Please click them and try to understand them before asking.
Setup for the first run
The class level that people end up before their first reincarnation varies a lot, so it’s impossible to predict exactly how many points you’ll be able to spend. I’ll show you a decent starting setup which most people will be able to afford. You don’t need to get everything on it, it’s just a suggestion.
You also might get more than necessary for my setup. The reason for getting some of the upgrades and ignoring the other ones will be explained in the next section.
How should I spend talent points unsupervised? (Early Game)
Important: Quite often you may find yourself forced to take a “bad” node, that’s completely normal. You should get used to it. To read specifics about the way certain nodes work, click on them in game.
For now, you should focus on:
- Strength nodes – they directly increase your attack,
- Hp nodes – they directly increase your hp,
- Fighting efficiency nodes – multiplies the attack value
You should keep them relatively balanced, with the strength and hp nodes having a slight priority. Early on, the amount of talent points that you’ll end up having during the run is very limited, so don’t worry if you can’t get a lot of them. They directly improve your fighting stats, so they are very important.
Nodes that you should get slightly less of, but not avoid taking:
- Class xp nodes – they make you level up faster,
- Skull gain nodes – they give you more skulls,
- Potato gain nodes – they give you more potatoes.
Class xp nodes enable you to get higher level quicker. Higher level = more reinc xp and free talent points. Skull gain is pretty slow, so having additional ones won’t hurt. Early on, potato gain nodes are viable and quite decent. Later in the game they’ll become more and more useless.
What Are the Strengths and Weaknesses of Each Class?
What nodes on the talent tree should I pick for each of them?
Important: Info in this section is accurate for early game, some things may change a little later on. Warning: in this section I’m only talking about “stat nodes” – nodes that increase the gains you get from your basic attributes. There are many other important nodes that are not covered in this section.
For some classes there are different stat nodes on the skill tree that you might want to focus on, I’ll be referring to them according to the image below.
- STR – Strength, boosts damage.
- CON – Constitution, boosts hp and hp regen.
- LCK – Luck, boosts drop rate and chance to get higher tier gear.
- AGI – Agility, boosts evasion rate.
- DEX – Dexterity, boosts crit chance.
Important: Str and con are very important no matter what class you pick, so I won’t be including them in the recommended stat nodes section.
Farmer – is extremely average, isn’t bad, but isn’t good either. LCK, AGI and DEX are essentially useless for him and you should try to get as few of them as possible.
When you are quite a bit further in the game, AGI becomes quite a bit more important than LCK and DEX. Explanation in point 6 of the guide.
Smasher – best class for pushing to get to higher stages, as well as the best class for challenges (if you don’t know what they are don’t worry). Has much higher damage than other classes. His luck and agility are lower than usual, but they hardly matter.
- LCK, AGI, DEX – same as farmer
Hoer – second best class for pushing after smasher. While comparable to smasher when it comes to potential of reaching high areas, lower damage and higher hp mean slower fights later on
- LCK, AGI, DEX – same as farmer
When you are quite a bit further in the game, DEX becomes quite a bit more important than LCK and AGI. Explanation in point 6 of the guide.
Harvester – the worst class for pushing early on, as his base damage is half of farmers. I’d recommend to level him up last. His speciality is dealing critical hits.
- DEX – very important, since it increases your crit chance, which synergizes which harvesters skills
- LCK, AGI – useless
- Later on, the best class for worm farming. Explanation in point 6 of the guide.
- Rancher – the second worst class for pushing early on – his base hp is half of farmers. I’d recommend to level him up second to last. He is good at evading damage.
- AGI – very important, since it increases evasion chance
- DEX, LCK – useless
Freeloader – very important class, as he is extremely good at gear farming. His hp / attack is the same as farmers, so he isn’t that bad to level up.
- LCK – very important, as it increases drop chance
- AGI, DEX – useless
Class Skill Nodes
Every class has its own special skill nodes which are obtainable only if you are playing with that class.
In the image I have marked their location for the freeloader class. Notice that in order to get both of them you need to take two long paths, which won’t be affordable for you in quite a while. Also, even if you can get both of them, they are not worth it if getting them would entail using up most of your talent points.
Every other class also has 2 skill nodes exclusive to it. If I recall correctly, most of them aren’t very useful early on, but they can get more and more important the further you are in the game. Maxing them out for any given class costs 2 * 3 * 5 = 30 talent points. (2 nodes, 3 levels, 5 points per level)
Keep in mind that in the majority of cases it’s better to get a class attribute up node, instead of getting both skill nodes.
Important: I’ll be describing skill node effects assuming that you have them maxed out. While maxing out both of them won’t be efficient for quite a while, maxing out one of them might be worth it.
Farmer skill node:
- Effect: you take damage when evading attacks, but you get +60% damage for 3s
- My opinion: very good damage increase, solid investment
If you notice that buying skill nodes for farmer might be worth it, AGI becomes a bit more important. It’s not worth to go out of your way for it, but given the choice you should pick it over LCK or DEX
Smasher skill node:
- Effect: killing an enemy increases the damage your next hit will deal by 30%.
- My opinion: This skill doesn’t stack. So on harder areas it won’t even be active for too long. It’s pretty bad, I’m not sure if it becomes worth taking at any point in the game.
Hoer skill node:
- The same as farmer skill node, but it replaces your crit damage with +60% damage bonus for 3s. Therefore DEX, which increases crit chance becomes more important.
Harvester skill node:
- Effect: critical hit increases worm drop chance by 30% for 6 kills. In practice it will be working constantly.
- My opinion: it’s very useful for worm farming, but quite expensive. Worth taking after you’ve exhausted other worm boosting options.
Rancher skill node:
- It’s useless till you unlock milk, and even then it’s not too amazing. Forget that it exist before you unlock milk
Freeloader skill node:
- Effect: getting eq drop increases the item rating of eq dropped in the next 15s by 15%
- My opinion: really good stuff for eq farming, but it’s good only for eq farming. Which is what you are supposed to be doing with this class anyway
