Useful Tips for Nightmare Mode

Quick Overview

Warning: This contains story details!

In this game, it’s harder to hide than in other modes. It’s best to use vents more often. The vent game needs you to press A, S, D, or F when spiders fall. This is probably the easiest game.

You can see a map of Oswald’s House and the Pizzeria by pressing F when loading the game. This shows where to hide and what makes noise.

By the end of the game, make sure you:

  • Fix all arcade machines in the present and play them
  • Find all of Oswald’s Dad’s things
  • Play all 3 hidden mini-games

Oswald’s House – Night 1

Don’t go to the Master bedroom right away. This would make Springtrap start moving around. Instead, first collect all the items in the house.

Attic:

  • Battery in the pile of suitcases
  • Sometimes a Freddy Mask (It’s not clear when this appears)

Kitchen:

  • Mom’s phone number on the fridge (Important)
  • Battery on the right wall shelf

Hallway 2:

  • Battery in the right wall drawer

Basement:

  • Battery in the toolbox on the shelf
  • Rope on the shelf (Important)
  • Weight Resistance Mechanism near the washing machine (Important)

After getting these items, go to the Master bedroom to make Springtrap active. Use the Doll in the Attic to make a loud noise and distract him. Then move through these rooms:

Attic > Hallway 1 > Dining Room > Kitchen > Hallway 2 > Master Bedroom

Get the phone from the Master bedroom. When the game tells you to use the phone, go to the Dining Room instead and hide under the table. You can take out the phone and put it away without using it. Then call Mom (555-5683) and wait for her to come home.

To leave the house, use the rope at the attic window. You can get there before Springtrap catches you.

Pizzeria – Night 1

Go to the Ballpit to travel to the past. In the past, get the Wooden balls from the Ballpit room. Go see the Crying Kid in the Endo Suit. Pick up Dad’s Wallet in the Backstage room. Try the locked door. Return to the present. Do Jeff’s Quest to get the Key. At the Mill, get the Rat Trap and Puzzle Matrix. There’s also a battery on the ground. In the present, go to the Arcade for the Space-Age speakers. Get the Electron gun from Storage and the Control Panel from Party Hallway. Find a Power Supply in the trash can near Storage. Fix the Arcade machines. Go back to the past. Get the Screwdriver and Token Slot. Don’t save the kid yet. Go to the Entrance and fix the vent. Answer the ringing phone. For the best ending, play the gumball machine minigames. This is safe to do now. After that, save the kid. When chased, run to the ballpit to end the night.

Oswald’s House – Day/Night 2

Day 2: Play as usual. You don’t need to get any Key Items. There’s a Voucher Validator in the 2nd Classroom.

Night 2: This part is quick. When you start, just run out the front door right away.

Pizzeria – Night 2

When the lights go out, go to the break area behind the stage to turn them on. Then return to the ball pit and get in. Play the night as usual. If someone chases you, go back to the ball pit instead of looking for a different hiding spot. If you’re caught in Party Room 2, hide in the vent next to the Arcade door. Use the Rat Trap you got earlier to catch the rat before going to Jeff’s for pizza. When you get the pizza, look in the cabinet with a sink nearby for a battery. Get Chica to follow you out, then continue playing normally. Be ready to press the space bar quickly during the scene when you go back to the entrance.

Oswald’s House – Day/Night 3

During the day at school, play as normal. If you didn’t get the Voucher Validator in the 2nd Classroom on Day 2, get it now. You can find batteries in the far left lockers and in a backpack on the Playground. At night in Oswald’s House, use the screwdriver in Oswald’s bedroom to escape.

Pizzeria – Night 3

Go through the night as usual. Visit the Kitchen early to get the Family Vacation Photo. Use the Sticky Hand to pull down the vent grate. Hide in the Kitchen cabinet or vent if Springtrap hasn’t seen you. Listen for his location. If caught, run to the ball pit. When opening the Arcade door, Bonnie scares you. Get the Photo of Oswald and use the vent to go to the Entrance. Walk back to the Ball pit, picking up the Ticket Counter near Foxy’s Place. Interact with Bonnie’s Guitar before leaving.

Back in the present, all arcade machines should be fixed. Repair any that aren’t and play all of them. If you need more tickets, play Heftin’ With Helpules. You need 100 tickets total. Use 4 Vouchers in the Present for the console and stickers. Use 1 Voucher in the Past for the 2nd Secret Minigame.

Return to the past, fix the guitar, and be ready to press the space bar quickly when grabbed in the vent. Play normally and complete the minigame in the Arcade. When the chase starts, you can make it back to the ball pit. Just avoid Bonnie grabbing you.

Oswald’s House – Day/Night 4

Go to the Library before school. Trade the Freddy Mask or Game Console for the firecracker. This lets you skip the night part of Oswald’s house and avoids the Freddy scare in the doorway. You won’t need to use the ladder to escape. After getting the firecracker, just play the game as usual.

Pizzeria – Night 4

Play the night as normal. Get Dad’s Wedding Ring next to the Terrified Girl and Dad’s Nameplate in the bottom right of Storage. To make a distraction, use the Broken Soft Serve Machine or the Broken Arcade Machine in the Arcade. You can run to a safe vent after doing this.

Be careful when moving around because you might run into Freddy. He shows up on Difficulty 1. Freddy blocks doorways and scares Oswald when he peeks out. He can make you think someone like Chica has entered the room. If you don’t hear footsteps or a door open, it’s probably Freddy. Springtrap makes different music play when he’s in the same room as you.

Be ready to press E quickly when caught in the Kitchen during the cutscene. You have enough time to run to the ball pit during this chase.

Pizzeria – Night 5

Talk to Jeff in the Security Room. When you leave, a chase starts. Take this path: Storage (Present) to Party Hallway to Dining Area to Ballpit (go to Past) to Dining Area to Party Hallway to Storage. Hide in the vent.

Then play normally. Go to the Party Hallway and interact with the Party Room door. Use the vent to reach the basement and backstage. Get the keycard and go back right away to unlock the door and save the girl. Before taking the Strange Photo, call Mom (555-5683) for the last secret minigame.

Make sure you’ve played all Arcade Machines and done the other secret minigames. Keep playing normally to finish the run. After Springtrap takes Oswald’s dad, run straight to the Ballpit. The last scene needs you to press F twice.

This should get you the 3 Star Ending. You’ll know it’s right if they talk about watching a movie instead of moving. If you get 2 Stars, reload the autosave and check you’ve done everything: play all Arcade Games (and fix them), get all of Oswald’s Dad’s things, and do all secret minigames.
