Tech Progression Cheat Sheet
This section is not meant to be exhaustive, and it isn’t strictly ordered (you may wish to start drying your hide before you make a study desk, for example), but it contains a brief list of the important tasks you must complete in order to progress through major technology hurdles.
Primitive Age
- Get Bone from Chicken/Squirrel
- Make Bonesaw/Bone Glue/Study Desk
- Make Claim
- Gather Hide
- Dry Hide on Drying Frame
- Tan Hide in Tanning Tub
- Fish for Food or other Primitive Recipes to Raise Strength to Mine
- Construct Palisade
- Make a House for Storage
- Collect and Plant Wild Crops
- Forage Rustroot
- Make a Kiln
- Make Clay Jar
- Make Clay Cauldron
- Make Rustroot Extract Prospect for Metal
- Find Metal Ore
- Make a Stack Furnace
- Smelt your Metal Ore
- Make a Frying Pan for more advanced recipes
- Collect Candleberries for Candleberry Wax
- Collect Bees from Wild Beehives to make Bee Skeps to get Beeswax.
- Prospect for Wine Glance in a Cave (AKA Z Level -1) (Wine Glance only spawns on -2 or below).
- Place a Mine Pyre above the Wine Glance
- Burn the Mine Pyre
- Build your Mine Hole with your hardened leather from wax, and other ingredients.
Bronze Age
- Gather your wine glance ore.
- Smelt it at your stack furnace.
- Take bars of copper from the stack furnace, and combine them with bars of tin you got from cassiterite on Level -1, by crafting “Bronze Bar” at an alloying crucible.
- Use the bronze bars, which are the first accessible hard metal, to make an anvil and a smithy’s hammer.
- Use further metal bars and your new anvil and smithy’s hammer to set up table with metal utensils and symbelware, for massive bonuses to all consumed foods.
- Make bronze sword and armor, to hunt high level animals for better foods (sausages, variable recipes like autumn steak, etc.).
- Tame Animals
- Find high quality water and clay nodes to craft higher quality goods. Make a Snekkja with the hard metal and explore the oceans and distant islands and continents.
- Clear dungeons, including ant dungeons for better tree seeds, bee dungeons for excess wax, beaver dungeons for high quality wood in the early game.
- Make advanced food production facilities and more advanced curiosities. Start to grow trees, which will give you higher quality wood.
- Compost animal parts in bins to make high quality compost for the trees. Combine your best high quality metal and high quality tree boughs to make high quality pickaxes to enable mining deeper (you’ll also need a lot of strength).
- Make another mine hole and search for iron ore.
- Make a full ore smelter capable of smelting iron ore.
Steel and Precious Metal Age
- Take a large quantity of iron, and refine it in a finery forge.
- Take the resulting bloom, and hammer it into wrought iron at an anvil.
- Place the wrought iron into a steel crucible, and work in teams to keep the steel crucible fed with fuel for 56 hours (it can only be fueled for 12 hours at a time.)
- Use the steel to craft high end armor and weapons for your hunters. Find trade partners, or make your own coin press and your own trading base if you’re up to the task!
- Explore the wealth of late-game technologies, and continue to progress your mining tool quality and the strength of your miner until you can dig very deep to -4 Z-Level (silver) and -6 Z-Level (gold).
- Use the precious metals to make extremely powerful symbols to make eating even more efficient.
- Make luxury goods like merchant’s robes to expand your inventory. Make a Knarr and hunt whales.
- Continue to -9 Z-Level, which has the highest quality minerals.
- Explore the late-game content, such as building or cooperating in owning and expanding a Kingdom/Realm, either directly or through material support.
