Idle Hero TD – Starter Guide (Waves 1-2000)

How to Start (Basics, Tips and More)

By Laterus

General Tips

Synergies

Synergies are everything! Most of the efficient strategies use 1 hero exclusively for damage, and the other 9 are there to synergize and/or provide their skill use as support. Get real familiar with how these work!

Gameplay loop

Learn the patterns and cooldowns you will need to manage. This is an “idle” game, but you are rewarded for awareness! Keep bosses on cooldown, click your active play reward (or watch the ad if mobile), etc.

Spells

Spells are important to an extent, but will not wildly shift wave push progression. Instead, try to use loadouts that give you the greatest consistency over time in regards to your current goal (xp, gold, push, etc).

Auxiliary progression

Don’t forget about Missions/Challenges, Icons and Backgrounds, and Daily/Weekly Tasks. These are all excellent secondary goals and priorities that will push your progression!

Purchases

This is a common suggested priority:

  • Game Speed -> Battle Pass -> Weekly/Daily/Tourney Passes -> Everything Else

All passes are one time buys and always on!

All The Currency Stuff

Note

There isn’t really a “wrong” way to spend any currency, just various levels of debatable efficiency. What makes sense for one person might be obtuse for another! The suggestions presented here are simply tested and generally accepted as “good”.

Exception

If you are not purchasing the 6x speed boost with real life money, then any priority immediately shifts to “Max Game Speed” for any currency that offers it!

Gold

  • Priority 1 – Level your heroes each run, this one is a no brainer!
  • Priority 2 – Grab icons when you reach thresholds of income capable.

Prestige points

Spread these out between Damage and Kill Gold evenly, and pick up other upgrades as they become “cheap” to max out in one go.

Attribute points

By rank 41 on any hero, max out: Skill Power and Cooldown, Range and Attack Speed Then just do w/e, it’s all good stuff.

Tournie trophies

Battlepass Exp and Skill Power are safe bets to max out first, after that it is largely preference as your income of these is wildly subjective.

Energy

Use to buy heroes as needed, then all of it into Prestige Power! Pick up other upgrades as they become relatively “cheap”.

Gems

Battlepass Exp is a great first to max for gems, after that it is wildly preferential! Buying icons for their buffs is never a bad method though.

Tech scrolls

Unlock the whole tree all the way down, then pick your favorite buffs that can be maxed. Work on capping those then dump into dmg/gold.

Weekly tickets

Hero Level Up Cost reduction is definitely the priority, but it doesn’t unlock until wave 5000! Either hoard until then or lightly spread for fun.

Team

Note: This is not definitive, or absolute, just a suggestion. This is simply a team that “will” get you through your first few prestiges with notable progress!

Starting line

This Scout is your primary attacker (DPS)!

Reasons

  • All common heroes, unlocked at the very start.
  • Utilizes beneficial starting synergies, focusing on globals to buff Scout.
  • Utilizes skills to push gold income and damage.

Gameplay

  • Use energy to unlock this team initially, then spend any further energy earned into Prestige Power I
  • Level up every unit to 25, then dump all further earned gold into the main DPS Scout
  • With Prestige Points earned, spend them evenly between Damage I and Kill Gold I (put 2-3 levels in Range too!)

Road to Wave 400

More scout

Can use Scout or Druid as DPS (Scout is preferable, but rank XP on Druid will be needed for a future step if you want to prep early).

Pre-reqs

  • Scout needs +6% range at least, otherwise you must use “Longshot” combat style
  • Be on the Snow Fort map (obviously)
  • Ensure targeting and combat styles are like the pic.

Branching out

  • This is NOT the end all be all setup, and this is the stage you should 100% explore options, play with synergies when rare heroes unlock, try your hand at other teams! You will reach wave 400 regardless if you just simply play.

Spells

Other spell options

Goal: Wave 400+

If you use this team the whole way, this will happen when your Scout’s unbuffed, displayed damage value is roughly 60B or higher, plus some atk speed.

First XP Team

Archers

The Hero you are leveling goes here!

You can really use whatever spells you want, these are just conducive to the XP process.

Pre-reqs

  • Wave 400 was reached, unlocking Barren Desert!
  • Get used to this map, you will be here awhile
  • Range or proper combat style is used for synergies

The process

  • Put the remainder of your gold into the hero you are ranking up until you fail a wave, then prestige!
  • Level up every hero to whatever milestone is easy to reach for your stats: 75/150/250/etc.
  • Place the hero you want to level in the slot shown, and then start the waves.

Spells

Feel free to toy around with spells! These are just the ones that consistently give good math.

Goal: Get all these heroes to rank 15+

  • Militia
  • Druid
  • Arbalest
  • Battlemage

Road to Wave 2000

The four 15s

Use bottom Arbalest, or any Militia as DPS

You can really use whatever spells you want, these are just conducive to the XP process

Pre-reqs

  • Militia, Druid, Arbalest, and Battlemage are all acquired and at least rank 15.
  • Probably “Longshot” combat style to reach synergies.

Branching out

  • You do not HAVE to use this team! Once you have the understanding, try to build others!
  • Make sure to switch up the grind with events, challenges, tasks, etc.
  • Build higher rank XP teams to break up the monotony of grinding to wave 2000+

Spells

Feel free to toy around with spells! These are just the ones that consistently give good math.

Goal

  • Things get a whole lot more arbitrary from here! At this point, you should have a solid understanding of the game, and can choose new goals as you see fit!
