Combat Task Unlock Guide

Unlocking Eruption:

You must complete the previous unlock, “Rapier”, to unlock the Eruption task. To unlock Eruption, you must trigger the piercing proc on a strike and kill 25 enemies.

You can tell when the piercing strike procs when you see a white arrow-like animation when hitting an enemy with a strike that has a piercing strike/penetrative-attack chance.

Unlocking Baboon:

You must complete the previous unlock, “Buddha’s Small Palm”, to unlock the Baboon task. To unlock Baboon, you must upgrade two piercing strike/penetrative-attack chance attacks to level 4 within one stage.

Unlocking Earthquake:

You must complete the previous unlock, “Mantis Defense”, to unlock the Earthquake task. To get progress on the Mantis Defense task you must be on the Subway stage to kill enemies armed with loudspeakers. I killed one loudspeaker enemy with some random attack and it counted.

This and similar tasks will be quite tedious. I only encountered one enemy armed with a loudspeaker. I’m sure there’s probably more, but I only got one early in the stage. Expect to have to run the Subway stage many times to complete this series of unlocks.

Unlocking Saw:

You must complete the previous unlock, “Nomad”, to unlock the Saw task. This currently cannot be completed due to the “Mantis Defense” task bug. All tasks following “Mantis Defense” (Earthquake, A Thousand Monkeys, Axe, Superhero, Nomad, and Saw) cannot be completed.

Unlocking Scissor Kick:

You must complete the previous unlock, “Twist”, to unlock the Scissor Kick task. To unlock Scissor Kick, you must deal 1,500 damage to any boss using strikes with the Knock Back/Push trait. The unlock will be awarded after the boss is defeated.

Unlocking Rapier:

It can be tricky to complete. When hitting the old man with a piercing/ penetrative-attack chance strike, it must proc when you hit him. It’s not enough to simply hit the old man with a move that is capable of piercing strike. Ideally, you want to be using a strike that has a high percentage chance of it occurring, such as Double Fist (30% chance of occurring).
