Kingdom Two Crowns: Dead Lands – Guide to Monarchs

Quick Guide to Monarchs

By StarForceKaiser.

In the Dead Lands setting for Kingdom Two Crowns, there is a unique mechanic in which you can play as four different monarchs each with their own unique ability. This guide will be explaining their function. Information is recorded to the best of what I recorded, especially duration/cooldown of monarch abilities.

To activate the monarch abilities in Dead Lands, you need to press the following button depending on platform:

  • PC: [W] or [Up] arrow key for Player 1. For Player 2, [U].
  • Xbox: LB/RB or [Up] on the D-Pad.
  • Playstation: L1/R1 or [Up] on the D-Pad.
  • Nintendo Switch: Depends on if individual joy-con or pair of joy-cons/pro controller. If one joy-con, the [Up] button where [X] usually is. If joy-con pair or pro controller, can be [X], L/R, or [Up] on the D-Pad.
  • Mobile: Swipe-up with two fingers.

Unlocking and Changing Monarchs

To unlock monarchs except Miriam (starting), you need to find them in their cage in the corresponding island. After that, you must pay 12 coins for an archer to shoot down the suspended cage followed by 3 coins to unlock and play as them. Be advised that the archer will not go if there is a portal between.

To change monarchs, you need to have stone age and stone walls. The Ruler Shrine will always appear opposite to the scythe shop. Changing monarchs will slowly cycle and cost 5 coins.

  • The first starting monarch is Miriam, which you start playing as upon starting new file. Her ability is a ice whip which causes ice spike to appear from the ground and freeze any greedlings for a few seconds and slows down breeders. Be advised: Her ability will extinguish greed that is on fire. Her freeze duration and cooldown is ~4 seconds. Miriam is best paired with Gamigin for freeze and dash combo.
  • The second monarch is Gebel and is found on the 2nd island. His ability turns into a bat for ~16 seconds and cooldown of ~36 seconds. The bat ability is recommended for getting around efficiently, especially slow defensive mounts like the lizard. Be advised that you cannot pick up coins/gems, dog is still vulnerable, and hermits will dismount.
  • The third monarch is Alfred and is found on the 3rd island. His ability summons a clone in front of him for ~20 seconds with a ~51 second cooldown. The clone can duplicate the ability of the mount such as unicorn if timed correctly. Greed will try to attack the clone first if closer to them for a few attempts before giving up and focusing on you. Recommended to pair Alfred with Gamigin for charge, Golem for defense, or Unicorn for more coin.
  • The fourth monarch is Zangetsu and is found on the 4th island. His ability rallies nearby archers, squires/knights, pikemen, and catapults to increase their attack speed for ~12 seconds with a ~16 second cooldown. Zangetsu is best used against nightly waves, blood moon waves, retaliation waves, and offensive against portals. Be advised that Zangetsu’s ability does not affect Ballistas. Also for catapults, beware of your fire barrel supply as it will drain faster, as well as catapulting more boulders for any breeders to throw back.
