Multi Turret Academy – Guide to Basics

Icons in the Game

There are icons in the game. They are currencies you earn by playing. You can use them to buy items, tanks, and new ways to play.

Lemons are earned by completing missions. Use them to unlock new vehicles in the garage. If you don’t have enough lemons for a tank, try to finish a run. You don’t have to go far to get lemons. Just finish a run by running out of crew, completing the final mission, or hitting the retreat button.

Pineapples are earned by completing missions and getting kills. Use them to reroll choices and buy things at the Department Store. Having enough pineapples can make a run better. Pineapples reset at the start of a run, so use them.

Days Off are earned like Lemons but are rarer. You can only earn them after beating the first boss. Use them to unlock strategies that change how the game is played. It takes many Days Off to max out strategies. You can work on buying tanks and upgrading your playstyle at the same time.

Rewards, Department Store and Missions

Click the globe in the main menu to go to the mission roadmap. This is where you make choices that can change your run. The roadmap starts with a free turret choice. Then it alternates between battles and rewards.

Battle: Choose which mission to fight. Each mission gives a reward. There are four types of missions:

  • Capture: Attack and control points. Or destroy all enemies to win. Enemies spawn in preset locations.
  • Defend: Keep enemies away from the point. When the timer ends, you win. Enemies come from one or more locations on the map.
  • Survive: Keep your tank safe while enemies flood the map from all directions. Destroying enemies can speed up the timer. You can also wait for the clock to run out.
  • Assault: Help a tank formation in a large battle. Enemies spawn in preset locations and reinforce from one side of the map. Destroy enemy tanks to win.

Turret Reward: Choose from 1 of 3 turrets to improve your tank. Pick turrets that cover your weaknesses (penetration, damage, range, etc).

Crew Reward: Choose from 1 of 3 crew skills. These are the most varied items in the game. Every crew skill is unique and can only be obtained once during a run.

Hull Upgrade Reward: Choose from 1 of 3 upgrades to improve your tank. Most options improve survivability, with a few exceptions.

Ally Reward: Choose from 1 of 3 allies to follow you in battle. Many playable tanks can show up as allies. Be picky if you want a tank with a specific role. Some SPGs and casemate vehicles are not available.

Department Store: Visit Sunny’s Department Store to exchange pineapples for rewards. This can be useful if you want a specific type of reward that you haven’t gotten yet.

Turret Upgrade and Swap

There are two buttons in the bottom right corner of the roadmap. One button opens a turret layout menu, like pressing B during battle. The other button lets you invest turrets into each other to make them better. This is useful if you have many low rank turrets taking up space in your inventory.

In the turret swap menu, you can see all the turrets you’ve collected during a run. You can swap them with each other or sell them if they’re not helping you. Sometimes, you can use this to afford a department store upgrade or reroll that you really need.

In the turret upgrade menu, you can dismantle turrets in your inventory to make other turrets better. This is a great way to keep old turrets useful or to fix the weaknesses of otherwise great turrets. You can find the specific effects of each upgrade in the sidebar.

The Two Types of Damage

There are two main types of damage in Multi Turret Academy: AP and HE damage. AP, APCR, HVAP, MG, and HEAT turrets follow AP damage rules. If the turret has more penetration than the enemy’s armor, it will go through and do damage. If you can’t get a clean shot, don’t worry. Repeated shots wear down armor, making it easier to penetrate.

HE damage applies to HE turrets, rockets, and Kettengrad mines. These turrets do full damage when hitting armor less than or equal to their rated penetration. Against higher level armor, damage starts to decrease until it can’t do damage. HE weapons also have an area of effect, with some being much larger than others.

As a general rule, if you’re not using HVAP or MG turrets, never let your damage per shot be lower than 2. 1 damage is not enough to reliably destroy enemies. Even 2 damage may be too low depending on the mission. There are exceptions, like with HVAP turrets, but your turret may need an upgrade if it takes more than 3 shots to destroy tanks with 5 or 6 crew members. In the early game, this rule isn’t as strict, but it becomes very important in the mid and late game.

How to Not Die

It’s easy to get into a position where you’re being shot at or get caught between a tank and a hard place. Here are some ways to deal with this:

Crew System

The Crew System is the big number in the top left of the screen when you start a mission. You use points to respawn based on how many people are in the tank. Bigger tanks need more crew per respawn. Think of it like extra lives.

Crew points can’t be refilled during a game. To maximize this, use either the Commisar’s or Maria’s strategy. Both will add crew points at the start of the game. As long as there’s one crew point left, your tank can respawn. This makes strategy choice important for tanks with a large crew if you get blown up a lot.

Moving with Purpose

The most consistent way to avoid getting hit is to move faster. Many options can help you do this, like hull upgrades, crew skills, and strategies. Even with better speed, approaching the enemy at the wrong angle will still get you blown up. It doesn’t replace planning your moves ahead of time. Being able to put your tank where you want it at any time is the most consistent way to not take damage.

Some tanks are too big and slow to move out of the way in time. That’s when you need to think about the following:

Angling and Ricochet

Angling is a real-life tactic that WWII tanks used. The tank rotates itself to make its armor more effective. Rounds work best when hitting head-on. The bigger the angle, the less likely it is to go through. Learning how to angle is a powerful skill for long, slow tanks like the TOG series. At high angles, attacks can even ricochet. Allowing attacks to ricochet is very safe, but it’s hard to do on purpose. It’s easier to angle instead.

Crew Resistance

Crew resistance is your next best friend if not getting hit is your best friend. This mechanic reduces the damage taken when hit, by up to 90%. You can get some crew resistance by choosing the Commisar’s strategy or by using Spall Shields. Spall Shields are hull upgrades, so they can be stacked. Even one can make a big difference, turning lethal hits into barely-survivable ones.

Choosing a high rank tank will automatically give enemies some crew resistance. Bosses also use crew resistance very well, no matter what rank they are.

Armor and Armor Hardness

Some shots against late-game tanks just don’t go through, no matter how you shoot at it. High armor can shrug off HVAP and MG fire easily and can reduce the damage that HE weapons do. However, armor degrades every time it gets hit. Even the weakest guns will eventually damage your tank. In critical situations, armor can buy you more time, but it only lasts for so long.

If you have a lot of armor, Armor Hardness upgrades can be good options. It reduces how fast armor degrades from repeated hits. When choosing this upgrade, think about your current armor level and the enemies you’ll face by the end of the game. If the enemy can easily penetrate you, there’s no point in hardening armor that doesn’t work.

Sophia’s Crew Skill – Care

If you’ve got a tank with over 8 crew or you’ve stacked a lot of crew resistance, how can you make your tank even more survivable? The answer is with Sophia’s crew skill, Care. Every 7 seconds, she’ll heal 2 damaged crew members in your tank. This can make your tank much more resilient to any attack that doesn’t kill it right away. However, keep in mind that this doesn’t undo bad decisions – it just makes the consequences easier to deal with.

Game Speed and Accessibility

There are no specific accessibility options in the game yet. But you can change the game speed in the options menu. To get there, pause the game during a mission or click the blue notebook on the welcome screen. Then, click the “Special” tab and there will be a slider that can slow down the game.

Multi-turreted tanks have a special feature where secondary turrets can track targets and fire on their own. If aiming is not your strong point, try putting your main weapon in a sub-turret slot and let the computer handle aiming for you.

For single turret vehicles, Yulia’s skill “Let Me Play!” will do the same thing. This is perfect after a long day of work!
