Stamina management can be tricky in the early game…
Stamina Management Guide
Stamina and Energy
The amount of Stamina you will have in the beginning of a fight depends on how much Energy you had before the fight started.
Less Attacks?
You don’t have to fill up all your Move slots with Moves. You can pick less attacks, and less or no defense (for example, when you see that the enemy will be attacking you less, or won’t be attacking at all).
If you skip attacks, that will help you restore some Stamina. If you skip defense, and an opponent is hitting you, you won’t lose Stamina, – only Health. So, if you go for a Strength build, consider skipping defense often – you will have more Health to compensate for that, and possibly a small damage reduction.
Also, it’s generally a good idea to always look at your oppo’s set of Moves. Not only will you figure out what they are planning on doing, but you can learn a tip or two from them.
Styles
Contrary to what some people might think, the Arrrkido style does not have many Stamina-efficient attacks. The idea probably is to “turtle” in the beginning of the fight, conserving Stamina and to tire the opponent, and then finish them with some heavy and pricey Moves.
Also, Styles restore Stamina and even Health between Rounds. By how much is shown on your and your oppo’s bars at the center of the screen. By picking a required amount of Moves in each Style you can manage that. The difference is not big, but it can be crucial sometimes.
You can switch Styles freely (at least at this moment) between the Rounds.
Attributes
Strength makes you have more health, hit harder, and causes skills to use more stamina.
Agility gives you more action points, this means more chances to attack during your phase which means more chances to use stamina during your phase (therefore be careful which skills, and how many open slots you choose if you’re using a high AGI build).
Stamina Increases your stamina cap, how much stamina you recover between rounds, and how much stamina you recover by skipping attacks.
Skills Management
You’ll get better stamina management if you micromanage your skills between rounds.
Make sure you’re not using unnecessary modifiers that cost stamina, and adapt how many/which skills you use depending on how much stamina you have at the end of a round (It’s good to compare it to your opponent’s stamina level, fight style, and attributes).
