Reverse: 1999 on Linux

Install the Patch

I made a free update that lets you play the game on Linux. You can get patch.exe from here [GitHub]. After you download it, do these things:

  • Click the right mouse button on Reverse: 1999 in your game list.
  • Pick Manage, then choose Browse Local Files.
  • Get rid of “reverse1999.exe” or change its name to something like “reverse1999.exe.old”.
  • Put the “patch.exe” you downloaded there instead, and name it “reverse1999.exe”.

To start the game, you need to use Proton.

Enable Proton

First, turn on Proton for all your games.

  • Click on Steam at the top left.
  • Pick Settings from the list.
  • In the new window, go to Compatibility.
  • Check the boxes for using Steam Play for games that work with it and for all other games.

Then, turn on Proton for Reverse: 1999.

  • Click the right mouse button on Reverse: 1999 in your game list.
  • Pick Properties.
  • In the Compatibility tab, check the box to make the game use a specific Steam Play tool.
  • From the list that shows up, pick a version of Proton (like Proton Experimental or the newest regular version).
