SILENT HILL 2 – How to Fix Stuttering

Definitive Stuttering Fix

Some people have reported stuttering issues in this game. My game runs well after making some changes. Here are the steps to try…

Turn off hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling in Windows Settings (System > Display > Graphics > Default graphics settings).

In Nvidia Control Panel (3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings), change these settings for Silent Hill 2:

  • Set Monitor Technology to Fixed Refresh
  • Set Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance
  • Set Preferred refresh rate to Application-controlled
  • Set Vertical sync to On

Then set your monitor refresh rate to 60 Hz (Display > Advanced Display).

In the game settings:

  • Disable SSR
  • Set Shadows to Low
  • Set Shaders to Medium
  • Set DLSS to Balanced
  • Turn off Ray Tracing
  • Turn on the 60 FPS cap
  • Turn off V-Sync

Restart your computer.

An extra step: When starting the game, open Task Manager, find the two Silent Hill 2 processes, and set their priorities to High. This needs to be done each time you start the game.

These changes should help fix the stuttering problem.
