Star Trucker – Guide to Identifying Repair Shops

How to Identify Repair Shops

Paint Shops

Paint Shops let you change how your Star-Hauler looks. You can visit these places to paint your vehicle with different colors and designs. One popular shop is Diego’s Paint & Ride near Atlas Prime. Many players go there first to change their Star-Hauler’s look. It’s in Crossvale, close to the Jump Gate to Dependency Loop.

When you enter a Paint Shop, you have three ways to change your Star-Hauler:

  • Paint Jobs: These are designs that cover your whole vehicle. You can unlock many of these by doing Challenges. For example, if you do 5 jobs for a company like Instagalactic or Frank’s Logistics, you get their company design.
  • Paint Colors: This lets you pick the colors for your vehicle.
  • Paint Type: This changes how shiny or dull your vehicle’s body looks. It affects how light reflects off the paint.

There’s no cost to repaint your truck. Once you unlock a design, you can use it anytime in your current game save.

Body Shops

Body Shops are places where you can change parts on your vehicle. You can switch things like grilles and exhaust pipes. This lets you make your vehicle look how you want. There’s a Body Shop in New Aspen, near the Jump Gate to Crossvale.

At Body Shops, you can change these parts:

  • Grilles: These change how the front of your truck looks. They don’t help the truck work better, they just change its appearance.
  • Hood Ornaments: These are decorations for your truck. They can show what brand your truck is, express your personality, or just look nice.
  • Exhausts: In space, there’s no air pollution from exhaust pipes. Drivers often change these for how they sound or look. Some like to have tall, straight pipes.
  • Sensors: On Earth, these used to clean air. In space, we use them differently. Now they help find salvage beacons or signals from other drivers.

These changes let you express yourself or make your truck look better for your next trip in space.

Upgrade Shops and Auto Essentials

Upgrade Shops are where you can improve your Star-Hauler’s performance. They let you repair and upgrade your vehicle to make it work better and use less power. Some sectors have Auto Essentials shops, which sell basic items.

Auto Essentials:

  • Sell things like Power Cells, UCCs, and Air Filters.
  • Sometimes sell Shock Pods, Gas Cans, and Spare Gas Caps.
  • Stock changes based on location and time.

Upgrade Shops:

  • The only place to fully service your upgrades.
  • Can repair your Hull if it’s damaged.
  • Offer three types of upgrades:

Propulsion Upgrades (PR1-4):

  • Improve how your vehicle moves.
  • Include Turbopump System, Combustion Chambers, Nozzle Coolers, and Engine Control Unit.

Structure Upgrades (ST1-3):

  • Strengthen your vehicle’s Hull.
  • Help protect against space debris.
  • Include Reinforced Plating and Thermal Insulation.

Subsystems (SU1-3):

  • Various upgrades for different parts of your vehicle.
  • Include Maglock Dampener, Suit Station, and Sensor Tuning.

To check if your truck needs servicing:

  • Look at the second channel on the left monitor of your dashboard.
  • This shows the condition of your Hull, Services, and Upgrades.

Remember: Your upgrades will wear down over time, especially if you hit debris or go through Electrical Storms. When upgrades wear out, your Star-Hauler will perform like it did before the upgrades. Take care of your truck, and it will take care of you.

Recovery Summaries

If you run out of air or get too hot or cold while moving cargo, don’t worry. Rescue teams can help you. They’ll take you to the nearest place with basic supplies. This will slow down your current job if you have one, because your trailer will be left behind. Any illegal items you’re carrying will probably be taken away. You’ll have to pay a fee, which gets bigger depending on how bad the situation is. When you’re rescued, you’ll see a screen like the picture shown. Make sure to buy some basic supplies if you don’t have any stored, or you might need to be rescued again if you’re missing something important like an air filter.

Remember: If you’re playing in Hardcore mode, you won’t be rescued because death is permanent in that mode.
