At the beginner level or in lower elo ranked games, team compositions are often less important than individual performance.
Guide to Team Composition
Foreword
However, it’s still beneficial to have a sense of what makes a good team composition. If you want to give your team an edge over others, it’s worth considering some core setups that work well together. As you progress to higher-ranked play, team composition becomes increasingly crucial and can be a decisive factor in winning or losing a match.
Keep in mind that high and low priority flex picks are based on what most players would prefer to have over another character; this does not imply that low priority characters are bad. There are no issues if a player knows how to use them properly.
Defense
Michelle is the defenders’ core member as she is a really strong Sentinel that can handle herself really well and her kit allows her to be great in every map, locking down sites wherever she’s at. Going into a match without one character either from the choices of duelist or a controller to make room for more flexibility can work, but it puts your team at a significant disadvantage. Without a duelist, your team will struggle to reclaim space that the enemy has taken, particularly during site retakes.
Baimo and Flavia are strong choices for this role. While Fuchsia can substitute in by offering utility and countering smokes, her effectiveness in aggressive engagements is limited compared to dedicated duelists. Having a controller is a significant advantage, as their utility can put multiple enemies at a disadvantage and improve your team’s chances in fights. Don’t use Kokona in Base 404 as the map is entirely close-quarters. It will not work out great. Similarly, refrain from using Kokona in Kesmet due to the lack of effective sightlines for a sniper.
Attack
Ming is the attackers’ core member as her kit is really strong towards pushing into sites with her gun and her active skill being a really strong tool to catch opponents out of position and break through space, without her, the team will struggle to get into sites. Always include a smoker, as it greatly enhances team safety by blocking lines of sight when entering sites. Additionally, having a smoker without an initiator to provide intel is counterproductive.
Lawine is the preferred choice for scanning, as her scans are effective and her knife is hard for enemies to destroy without exposing themselves. While Kanami can also fulfill this role, her scans are more dependent on the map, timing, and placement, making her less consistent compared to Lawine.
Avoid picking Reiichi and Kanami in Base 404 as the map is entirely close-quarters. Even if Reiichi has his wall, he does not have a lot of good lineups for the wall and most likely will just be a detriment to the team. Similarly, refrain from using Kanami in Kesmet due to the lack of effective sightlines for a sniper.
