Oil Properties Explanation
By ToastNaut
The devs have basically explaining that there are few loot mechanics working at different times or at the same time for kinds of loot and what gives you loot, and how good it is.
What this means is that the loot drop modifications you can do to guns modifies one of those only, so the other things about when and what you get for loot is unafected by that.
Fortunately, this means taking -100% loot drops on a gun doesn’t mean you never get loot.
Unfortunately, we don’t know a lot of specifics about what exactly it does mean we’re opting out of.
Most likely it’s just for loot drop chances from enemies you kill with that weapon – which is somewhat rare to begin with.
When it comes to drops from enemies, we see they can drop organs (which is also afffected by hit location) money, and loot.
There are oils that modify the chances of all of these, so it’s fair to presume that this is probably what this oil is affecting.
Separate from that, we have stuff like stats to affect getting loot from crates (probably) and things that might modify the quality of stuff we pull from chests.
As far as using those oils to build a gun – there are lots of times you might build a gun either to not shoot an enemy (ground or area effects) or to apply an effect to an enemy that won’t kill them, like charm.
Those oils that affect loot, organs, or coins are very safe to apply, since the downside isn’t going to even be felt most of the time.
