The First Descendant – Quick Guide to Critical Rate & Critical Resistance

Critical Rate & Critical Resistance Guide

By ComplexNeko.

When calculating effective crit rate in scenarios where both Crit Rate and Crit Resistance are factors, the formula below is used to determine how much your Crit Rate is reduced by the enemies Crit Resistance.

Formula Used

The formula applied to calculate the effective Crit Rate is:

Crit Rate × (1 − Crit Resistance) = Total Crit Rate

This is a multiplicative formula, where Crit Resistance reduces the Crit Rate by a certain percentage.

75% Crit Rate Calculations

1. Given Values

  • Crit Rate = 75% = 0.75
  • Crit Resistance = 25% = 0.25

These values are converted into decimal form to simplify the calculation.

2. Step-by-Step Calculation

Step 1: Subtract Crit Resistance from 1

  • 1 − Crit Resistance = 1 − 0.25 = 0.75

Step 2: Multiply the Crit Rate by the result from Step 1

  • 0.75 × 0.75 = 0.5625

3. Final Result: Total Crit Rate

The effective Crit Rate is 0.5625 = 56.25%

This means that with a 75% Crit Rate and 25% Crit Resistance, the resulting Total Crit Rate will be 56.25%.

100% Crit Rate Calculations

The formula used to calculate the effective Crit Rate remains the same:

Crit Rate × (1 − Crit Resistance) = Total Crit Rate

1. Given Values

  • Crit Rate = 100% = 1.0
  • Crit Resistance = 25% = 0.25

These values are converted into decimal form to simplify the calculation.

2. Step-by-Step Calculation

Step 1: Subtract Crit Resistance from 1

  • 1 − Crit Resistance = 1 − 0.25 = 0.75

Step 2: Multiply the Crit Rate by the result from Step 1

  • 1.0 × 0.75 = 0.75

3. Final Result: Total Crit Rate

The effective Crit Rate is: 0.75 = 75%.

This means that with a 100% Crit Rate and 25% Crit Resistance, the resulting Total Crit Rate will be 75%.

Analysis Master Calculations

For this example let’s say the colossi have a crit rate resistance of 25%

When you use the Analysis Master mod, which lowers this resistance by -25%, you need to calculate how this affects the resistance in a multiplicative way.

Here’s the step-by-step process:

  1. Convert the percentage to a decimal: 25% becomes 0.25.
  2. Calculate the new resistance:
    • The mod reduces the resistance by 25% of the current resistance. So, if the boss has a 25% resistance, 25% of that resistance is 0.25 x 0.25 = 0.0625 or 6.25%.
    • Subtract this from the original resistance: 25% – 6.25% = 18.75%.
  3. Convert the new resistance back to percentage form: 18.75% resistance.

So after applying the Analysis Master mod, the boss’s critical hit resistance is reduced from 25% to 18.75%. This means your critical hit resistance is only reduced by 6.25%

Crit Rate and Resistance Notes

  • There is no cap on your crit rate; setting it to 75% does not mean you have reached a crit rate ceiling.
  • It is incorrect to assume that crit resistance has no effect on your crit rate just because your crit rate is lower than the boss’s crit resistance. A 75% crit rate does not mean you will be unaffected by the boss’s 25% crit resistance.
  • Having a 100% crit rate is still preferable to having a lower crit rate, even if you do not crit every time.
  • Having more players in your party doesn’t change the colossi’s critical resistance. The critical resistance remains the same whether you are playing solo or in a group.
  • Special Rounds includes a module called Analysis Master. This module reduces the enemies’ critical resistance by 25% (0.25). This reduction is multiplicative, not additive, meaning you cannot completely remove the boss’s critical resistance.
