To define scouting, to able to explore and reveal the fog of war effectively (without units dying in bad situations). Here you can find some tips that can help you.
Tips to Scouting
So its kind of interesting, when you say scout do you mean without clearing the map too?
Because yes you can scout ahead of your forces or before you build up forces to deal with more difficult wildlife.
- But what you want is the map control and the outposts.
- You can move ahead trying to not unleash the creeps.
- Being careful with overwatch and so on.
- And even hopping on outposts.
But without clearing them they can always walk back onto them. You could scout the map faster than you clear it. The real value comes when you clear the map because then you can maintain control over the outposts. Like sure theres also the caches and stuff.
Now if you mean scouting in terms of like being able to get good vision so you don’t walk into overwatch or being able to see through a forest then yes that’s another matter
Like the recon ability on the outrider.
The assassin with her movement and being able to ignore overwatch and also with both a movement and evasion ability make her a natural scout for your forces. Also early access to the transport also helps in being able to rapidly move your troops ahead safely.
It’s a really good point there. I think to use Ishim Enforcers to face tank everything while scouting it’s good.
Unlike the assassin, the other early units are burdened by dense terrain (forests, ruins, bleed etc.). Its probably by design that Ishim Enforcers are very tanky and can heal themselves too.
I’m guessing that because they can spend an action to heal and Cyber get assault transports the design intention is you take off the turns after shooting to enter and then alpha strike from transport or heal with the enforcers since their attacks power down for 2 turns
For Ishim:
- You can move to shoot (which takes up a turn).
- You can move to heal (which takes up a turn).
- You can move into the transports.
It gets better when you have internal repair station (which ironically makes it an amazing transport for healing, including biological units too).
- Each Leader is different, playing Cyber you get 2 Isham Enforcer who has HUGE survivability and all around decent unit made to take a hit and heal.
- Taking Fallen Soldier as an example you get an early rover which is insanely good for early map scouting and safer pathing.
- Voice has better all around map scouting and map control with dragoons and Abluths etc, but don’t have mearly the same survivability as a rover or Isham Enforcer.
- The game doesn’t adapt to you, you’ll have to adapt to the game and play around the cards you’re being dealt. You trade different things for different gamestyles.
