Curing Animals for Noobs
Starting a New Game
The beginning of the game is very hard because you don’t have any items or resources. You need to be careful with everything you do. There are some important things to do early in the game.
Preparing for Your First Visit
Make all your food before you go to the enclosure. You only get one visit before the parasite shows up. Try to do everything you can without going back to the train. Animals might start dying if you take too long. When you’re ready, start moving your cart to the enclosure. You’ll hear a phone ringing.
Important Steps
- Answer the phone. This call gives you important information. You’ll get a code for CJ’s locker in the hub. The locker has a floppy disk with story information and a PDA that gives you vaccines for the parasites.
- Go to the enclosure and do all the tasks you can. This is called the Investigation phase. Check each animal’s temperature, test how they react to sound, and feed them. Collect their waste after feeding. Try to get blood samples from as many animals as you can. Some animals might not let you take their blood. Don’t worry if you can’t get every sample right away.
If you can’t finish everything, you’ll have a chance to come back later.
Next Steps
- Examine your samples. Take your cart back to the train. Put the animal waste and blood samples in the machine. Use the computer to check the results. Look for signs of illness.
- Understand the results. Not every animal will show all symptoms. But all symptoms of the disease will show up at least once in the group. For example, one animal might have a fever, another might have bad waste, another might have infected blood, and another might react badly to loud noises. If you see all these symptoms in one group, it means all the animals with any symptoms have the same disease. Animals without symptoms are healthy.
- Be ready for a change. When you start walking back to the enclosure, something important will happen. The door will break and you’ll see a changed animal. This animal has been affected by the parasite. This starts the next part of the game, called the Vaccination phase.
- Don’t try to help right away. It’s not safe yet. Instead, go back to the train quickly and leave for the hub.
It’s important to understand what’s happening with the animals before you try to help them. The game will give you a chance to come back and treat them later.
Collect Your Supplies and Cook
- Get more supplies. When you return to the room where you hear your wife, look for a mail slot on the right side of the door. You’ll find many important items there. These are very important for your first enclosure. Without these, you might not have enough medicine to deal with the mutant animal or help the sick ones.
- Be careful with your supplies. Even though you now have more items, you still don’t have a lot. Use them wisely.
- Make some tranquilizers. Go to the train and make at least one tranquilizer. This will help you get blood from a normal animal during the difficult part. If you want, you can make one or two more to use on the mutant animal. This can give you some safe time if you’re worried about working under pressure.
- Focus on the mutant first. Don’t try to cure the sick animals yet. Deal with the mutant animal before helping the others.
Remember to be prepared before you go back to deal with the animals. Having the right supplies and medicine will make your job much easier and safer.
Final Steps
- Face the mutant. Your main goal is to make a normal animal sleep using a tranquilizer. This lets you get blood for the vaccine. If you haven’t checked all animals for blood problems, choose one you haven’t tested yet.
- Get blood samples. Take two blood samples from the sleeping animal. Go back to the train quickly.
- Make the vaccine. In the train, make the right vaccine for the parasite. It’s important to know what disease your animals have. The vaccine only works if it matches the disease the parasite is copying.
- Prepare your vaccine darts. When you make the parasite vaccine, you get three darts. This isn’t explained in the game. If you’re not sure about your aim, make three more with your second blood sample. You need to hit the mutant three times to cure it.
- Treat the mutant. Go back to the enclosure and start shooting the mutant with vaccine darts. If it charges at you, hide in the corridor. Wait until it’s safe, then go back and keep trying. You’re done when you see three darts in the mutant and it turns back to normal.
- Help the other animals. After dealing with the mutant, you can move freely between the train and enclosure. Make vaccines for the actual illness and give them to all the animals. The game will tell you when you’ve saved all the animals in the enclosure.
Stay calm and be patient. It might take a few tries, but you can do it!
Subsequent Enclosures
The process for later enclosures is similar to the first one, but with some changes:
- New food option. You can now make food for the mutants by adding meat to the animals’ meals. This keeps the mutant calm for a while.
- Easier blood collection. When you come back for Phase 2, you can feed the mutant to keep it calm. This lets you take blood from other animals without using tranquilizers.
- Be ready for the fight. Remember, as soon as you shoot the mutant with a vaccine dart, it will turn back into a monster and attack.
- Manage your supplies. You should have enough resources for each enclosure, but be careful.
- Collect extra supplies. After finishing each enclosure, go to the storage room and take whatever you can. This helps if you miss a shot or need more time.
- Avoid running out of resources. It’s very frustrating to lose because you don’t have enough medicine to even put down a sick animal. Always try to have some extra supplies.
