My Basic Advice for Teambuilding
By Robin Nightmares
Based on their stats and trait, every beastie has a range of things they want to do. for example, Spiker means an ideal Servace just wants to hit hard from the front lane, but other beasties have a lot of versatility!
It’s helpful to learn what these archetypes are for each beastie and how they can enable each other – and do the same for your opponent’s Beasties, so you know what they want and how to stop them from getting it.
How are your defenses spread?
If you encounter teams that hit hard in each type, do you have 2 or more beasties who can take the hits? How well do they manage extreme damage-focus cases, or other defensive beasties like Gastic? Do you have anything to stop or remove enemy boosts (e.g. Patience, Numbshot) so they can’t run away with the game?
Plan for field effects!
Can you use any with your lineup? Do you have access to Clear Field and room to use it? Does Rally (+50% Spirit POW, -25% Mind POW) affect your damage output positively or negatively? Does Dread shut down your strategy, and if so, how can you adapt?
It really comes down to learning what the options are and how to cover for them; skimming through the Beastiepedia helps me a lot. Assuming you’re sticking with the listed team, you’ve got a good spread of defenses, and a lot of versatility you’ll have to narrow down on deciding.
Example:
Supilero (Moff) have a lot of options both as a defensive tank AND as a heavy hitter, and their traits reflect this. Which one does Moff have, and are you considering changing it? Or, since you have good Body DEF coverage, should they be a front-line heavy-hitter with moves like Flex, Thump, or Vigor Beam? And when they can’t do any more damage, do you know who’s tagging in to take their place? so many options!
